Format JSON without leaving your editor or launcher, or send a selection to your browser tools. These packages use local processing and require no account.

VS Code

Format or minify JSON in the editor, or generate TypeScript and Zod in a new document. Exact numbers use the same engine as the website.

Install locally

Extensions → … → Install from VSIX…; choose the downloaded file. Use the DevToolsmith commands or Format Document for JSON.

Requires VS Code 1.90 or later. All formatting and code generation run locally; Open Tool Library attaches no selection data.

Chrome & Edge

Format JSON inside the popup or open a selection in smart paste. A one-use import token keeps selection data out of URLs.

Download browser extension

Install locally

Unzip the download. Open chrome://extensions or edge://extensions, enable Developer mode and choose Load unpacked. Select the extracted folder.

The content script is limited to devtoolsmith.com. Selection data expires after two minutes in extension session storage and is removed when read. The receiving website must have this integration deployed.

Raycast

Copy JSON and run Format Clipboard JSON. The clipboard changes only after successful local formatting.

Install locally

Unzip the package. In Raycast, add the extracted folder as a Script Commands directory, then run Format Clipboard JSON.

Requires macOS and Node.js. Scripts do not simulate keystrokes or read other applications; they read the clipboard only when invoked.

Alfred

Invoke dtjson to format clipboard JSON with exact numbers, using the same bundled local engine as the Raycast commands.

Install locally

Open the downloaded workflow to import it into Alfred, copy JSON, then invoke dtjson.

Requires macOS, Node.js and Alfred Powerpack. Invalid JSON leaves the clipboard unchanged.

Privacy and compatibility

Editor and clipboard formatting never send the input over a network. The browser extension sends selected text only to the website tab after you explicitly choose that action, using temporary extension storage. Selected contents are not embedded in the URL. Website conversions stay local; API tools contact only the endpoints you choose.

Local packages

These downloads are installable local packages. They are not marketplace publications or signed store releases. Source, build instructions and the standalone CLI are included in this repository. Package sizes and SHA-256 checksums are generated during the build. Save the full offline package if you want these downloads available without a connection.
