Check an annual reporting boundary
January 1, 2027 is 2026-W53-5: Friday of the previous ISO week-year’s final week. This distinction matters when grouping analytics, invoices or warehouse records by week.
Use ISO weekday numbering
Monday is 1 and Sunday is 7. These are ISO week dates, not locale-specific week conventions. Date-only calculations do not depend on the device’s time zone.
Calendar date to week date examples
Choose the calendar-to-week direction and enter a date in YYYY-MM-DD form. The table is generated with the converter’s date engine; its Monday and Sunday identify the complete reporting week.
| Calendar date | ISO week date | Monday | Sunday |
|---|---|---|---|
2020-12-31 | 2020-W53-4 | 2020-12-28 | 2021-01-03 |
2021-01-01 | 2020-W53-5 | 2020-12-28 | 2021-01-03 |
2021-01-04 | 2021-W01-1 | 2021-01-04 | 2021-01-10 |
2027-01-01 | 2026-W53-5 | 2026-12-28 | 2027-01-03 |
Convert back and reject impossible weeks
In the reverse direction, enter week-year 2026, week 53 and weekday 5 to recover 2027-01-01. Week 53 does not exist in every year: requesting 2021-W53-1 produces an error instead of quietly returning a date in 2022.
Use Business Days Calculator to apply a workweek and holiday policy, or Date Calculator to add calendar months. For a timestamp with hours and offsets, start with Batch Timestamp Converter before assigning dates to reporting weeks.

Frequently asked questions
Why is the ISO week-year different from the calendar year?
ISO weeks start on Monday, and week 1 contains January 4, equivalently the year’s first Thursday. Dates at the start or end of a calendar year can therefore belong to the adjacent ISO week-year.
Does every year have week 53?
No. The tool checks whether a requested week exists in the given ISO week-year. It does not normalize an invalid week into the following year.
