Common Frontend workflows

A formatter changes layout, not meaning; a minifier removes characters the runtime does not need; a generator produces a value for you to review in context. None of them is a linter or a test suite. Check the rendered page, and keep source maps or the original file when you ship minified output.

Clean up and ship front-end code

Format HTML, CSS or JavaScript to read it, then minify the version you deploy. Compare the result when the code relies on whitespace-sensitive markup such as inline elements or pre blocks.

Move markup into a React component

Convert HTML attributes, inline styles and SVG properties to valid JSX. Review event handlers and scripts yourself; they cannot be translated automatically.

Design and check a visual component

Convert a color, check text contrast, then build a gradient or shadow. Contrast depends on the rendered foreground and background, including transparency; inspect the final component as well as the numeric result.

Prepare assets for publishing

Compress images and remove EXIF data, make icons, generate meta tags and create a QR code. Review the URL and preview output before publishing; generated assets are downloaded from your browser.

Formatting is not validation

A formatter can print code that still fails at runtime, and it may reject syntax your build tool accepts through plugins. Use your project’s own formatter configuration when consistency with a repository matters.

Contrast ratios need the real background

WCAG contrast is calculated from the final rendered colors. Semi-transparent text, gradients and images behind text change the result, so check the component in the browser as well.

Frequently asked questions

Can minification change how my code behaves?

It should not for valid code, but code that depends on function names, comments or exact whitespace can behave differently. Test the minified output before deploying it.

Are my images uploaded when I compress them?

No. Images are decoded and re-encoded by your browser in a worker. Downloaded files are created locally.
