UUID v5 Generator

Create a stable UUID from a namespace and a name. The same exact UTF-8 name and namespace always produce the same UUID v5.

Runs 100% in your browser — nothing is uploaded

Names are case sensitive and whitespace is preserved. URLs and domains are not automatically normalized.

Choose a namespace

DNS, URL, OID and X.500 presets use the standard namespace UUIDs. A custom namespace can keep application identities separate. With the DNS namespace and name www.widgets.com, the result is 21f7f8de-8051-5b89-8680-0195ef798b6a.

Generate a reproducible mapping

Enter one name per line; results keep the same order. Empty lines are skipped, but leading and trailing spaces within a name are preserved. The implementation uses uuid and the RFC 9562 name-based mapping.

Frequently asked questions

Are URLs or domain names normalized?

No. Case, whitespace, Unicode representation and URL spelling are part of the input. Define a normalization rule in your application and apply it consistently before generating an ID.

Can a UUID v5 be used as a secret token?

No. UUID v5 values are deterministic and predictable from the namespace and name. Its SHA-1 operation provides the UUID name mapping, not authentication or a modern collision-resistant security guarantee. Use cryptographically random secrets for credentials.
